Science - Separating materials!

Year 6 had lots of fun this morning carrying out an experiment in Science! The aim was to separate a variety of different materials from a liquid. The children were given a bottle of cold coffee in which several materials had been added such as; paper clips, a tea bag, rice, raisins and plastic. They had to select the appropriate equipment and method required to separate each material.
They experimented with a variety of methods including filtering and sieving. Magnets were also used to remove the paper clips from the liquid, which the children very much enjoyed!

The 5/6 Team presents Aladdin!

Yesterday, the 5/6 team wowed their audience with a spectacular performance of Aladdin! Danny Warwick effortlessly played the leading role of Aladdin, alongside the wonderful Lucy Jones, who played the female lead of Princess Jasmine.
Obviously, no Christmas Pantomime would be complete without a baddie for the audience to hiss and boo! Aladdin`s nasty `Uncle`, the evil Abanazar, was excellently played by Harry Toghill.
They were all joined by a cast of highly talented actors and an enthusiastic choir who all contributed to make this year`s Panto a huge success! The children danced and sang their way through an entertaining retelling of the Disney classic! A big well done to the whole team for their hard work and commitment!

Year 6 Class Assembly

On Monday 20th November Year 6 had their team assembly. We invited our family along and enjoyed sharing our learning from this term.
Some children read out poems which we have been writing in English about the contents of an evacuees suitcase. We also shared newspaper stories we wrote about The Blitz and played a video recording to the audience of a poem we learnt!

VE Day Celebrations at Oreston!

We have been learning about VE Day in History and thought it would be a great idea to recreate a VE Day street party for our learning challenge!

We invited our family, friends and members of the local community to come along and join in the celebrations on Wednesday 22nd of November!

We provided home baked refreshments (lavender biscuits, fruit cake and carrot scones), displayed our learning from this term including WW2 teddies which we made in DT, newspaper reports, poems and our Art work based on Henry Moore. We also hung bunting across the hall and played music from the 1940`s.

Many members of the community were alive during WW2 and were able to retell stories and memories of their experiences. We really enjoyed sitting and listening to these stories!
